Promoting Health & Well-being in Kasaala
Overcoming Barriers to Good Health
Kasaala’s dry, semi-arid environment presents numerous health challenges, compounded by poverty:
Access to Information: High illiteracy levels limit access to health info.
Water Scarcity: Unpredictable rainfall makes accessing clean water difficult.
Sanitation: Many schools lack sufficient toilets. Community awareness needs improvement.
Malaria: Mosquitoes are prevalent, but many families lack nets.
Lighting: Reliance on firewood hinders study and poses safety risks.
Nutrition: Access to diverse food can be limited, especially during droughts.
Our Actions for Better Health
Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) / Workers (CHWs)
TECDI has previously worked with local CHVs to disseminate nutritional information and distribute mosquito nets. Currently, only 15 of 100 villages have active CHWs due to funding constraints. Expanding the CHW program is crucial for disease awareness, prevention, and referrals.
Mosquito Net Distribution
Provided nets to beneficiaries in the past (e.g., 2015) to combat malaria.
Nutritional Awareness
Conducted workshops on the value of local resources like baobab pulp.
