About TECDI: Cultivating Hope in Tsavo East
The Journey of TECDI
Tsavo East Community Development Initiative (TECDI) began with an idea sparked during a Tropical Biology Association course in Tanzania in 2003. Simon N. Musila, inspired by conversations with fellow participants Nick van de Wiel and Philipp Leonhartsberger, envisioned a way to address the deep-rooted challenges facing his home community in Kasaala Location, Kenya.
Recognizing the immense cost and complexity of starting a children’s home, the focus shifted to a more sustainable model: supporting the education of needy and vulnerable children within their community.
In August 2005, TECDI was officially founded when Nick offered to sponsor the first child. Registered as a Kenyan Community Based Organization (Reg. No. 16331), TECDI has operated ever since, driven by volunteers both in Kenya and abroad, working without compensation.
